Error

The data that was posted on 9/9/10 had an error on tag numbers and I just wanted to re-post the data so everyone could have the correct one. There were two 101 goats; when I was putting in the data I just completely made a typing error and wanted to get everyone back on the same page as we are.

Data

Finally the rain has hit the ground at the ranch and we are thankful to announce we have a new member of the Kerr family on staff, Ann Wells. The goats are really enjoying the greening of the pastures and all the new growth. There have been some cooler nights and everyone is really seeming to enjoy the break from the miserable heat. Last week we worked the goats and even took some pictures of the process we go through when working with your animals which I will add to the slide show. I have already added the data to the data sets on the right hand side I really hope you are pleased with what you see if you have any questions at all give us a call or send us an e-mail.

Cooler Weather

As many of you know the weather had been pretty hot and dry in this part of the world. This last week we finally got a small break from the heat and the cool front from the Tropical storm brought in some rain for us just enough to green everything. We did work the bucks on Thursday morning and will hopefully get the data posted toward the end of this week as we are fairly busy around the ranch. Not only, will I be posting the data but I will be posting some pictures of us working the bucks.

DATA!

Guys and Gals,

I just wanted to give you a little bit of information we learned on Friday when working the bucks. The first thing we learned is the ticks have invaded not only the dogs but some of the goats. We first began to pick the ticks and noticed a little swelling of the ears of the high infected bucks so we took those bucks to see Dr. Mitchell and when he picked the ticks we put them in a vile to send off to a livestock entomologist for more research on the tick problem. Dr. Mitchell said the best thing we can do is watch them and pick the ticks then put a little iodine where the ticks were located. On the other hand, there are some great things happening with the bucks including some really nice weight gains and fecal counts plus the weather gave us a little bit of a break for a few days and everyone and every animal is enjoying the cooler weather we are experiencing. I hope you guys enjoy looking at the data posted on the right hand side labeled 8/20/2010 data I know Mary and I have really enjoyed analyzing the data to see how the goats are doing.

More Data to Come

We will be working the bucks again this week and more data will be posted next week sometime. The weather forecast for this part of the world shows only double digits for this week instead of triple so maybe the animals will get some relief this week. All the bucks are looking great and we are starting to see some changes in the bucks. Over, the weekend Dr. Browning stopped by for a visit so I will be adding some pictures of his visit to the slide show.

Warm Up

All the goats have arrived for the test and are starting to become adjusted to the Oklahoma weather. We ended up having a total of 60 goats entered for the test. Before the goats began arriving we were almost in a drought situation but after the first set of goats arrived we finally received some relief with a little bit of rain to green things back up around here. I will be trying to give everyone an initial e-mail of how everything went over on the initial FAMACHA and weigh in of your goats. I will also plan to post the spreadsheet on the blog . After, the initial please just be looking at the blog for all the data and if you have any questions about your animals at all please feel free to give us a call or send us an e-mail and we will be more than happy to let you know how things are going.
